Everyone knows I love NPR, what some people don’t know is that on Friday nights when I used to play softball, I wouldn’t listen to Metallica to pump me up, I would listen to This American Life. Now, it wouldn’t really pump me up, but it would entertain me. Plus, that is the only time it is on the radio, you need to get it on a podcast otherwise. It’s a show, documentary style about the lives of American’s as told by the people themselves. It’s very well crafted, witty, funny, sad, entertaining and eye opening at times. I highly recommend that you give one episode a chance in particular, the break up. It deals with break ups, told from four different view points and with a visit from Phil Collins, it’s perfect. Check it out, I promise you’ll love it.

Goodbye Leroi

 Today Leroi Moore died, he was the saxophonist of the Dave Matthews Band. He was without exageration the greatest sax player I have ever heard and one of my favorite parts of ever one of the 7 live concerts that I went to. One of, if not my favorite song of all time “#33″ has a sax solo in it that was chiefly responsible for making me love the band. I am saddened to hear that such a great musician is no longer with us. Goodbye Leroi, you were amazing.

Summer Camp Summary

   Well I just got back from a week of Summer camp at Thousand Pines yesterday. We never had a dull moment thanks to whistles, which we used for all kinds of things, like calling random penalties on people in the lunch room or regulating the world’s largest duck-duck goose game. We had megaphones that we used for starting mobs and for singing “Since you’ve been gone” in Spanish while waiting to get into the chapel. As far as the competions went, the Legends of Duct-ball (all the counselors) played 2 games against the 8th grade boys all stars, which we may or may not have won by the mercy rule both times. Now for the grand daddy of them all, the Recreation Championship. As many of you know, last year the team I was on lost the championship by a mere 400 and some odd points, well this year our team did not have the same fate, thanks Travis, Shea and Allie, we won by almost 20,000 points. For our efforts we were rewarded with this   the Recreation Championship. It was super fun to see first time camp leaders (T, A & S) and all the kids in their cabins jumping up and down, hugging each other and cheering for one another when they announced that we won. Here is a picture of the boys in my cabin. Our team color was black and our team name was the FBI.

T-riffic.

This is a photo of the painting that my sister Tatiana, “T”, made for me. I told her I wanted a custom version of “the three musicians “by Picasso. You see, he made two different versions of the painting, each a little different from the other and I liked elements of each one. So, she took what I liked from each one and painted it. Here is the amazing part, it was the first time she had ever painted using oils. I really love it, it’s my favorite piece of art that I have and it sits proudly in the middle of my living room.

I was just thinking that if I ever decided to be a wedding DJ, I would be Emcee Thermos, AKA MC Thermos… oh… you are probably wondering why, why would I be MC Thermos? Let me just tell you exactly what I would tell the wedding party, “Good Evening Ladies and Gentlemen, I’ll be spinning the wheels of steel for y’all this evening (Texan wedding), so get your groove in gear and head on down to dance ground zero, I’m MC Thermos and I’ll be keeping it hot all night long“. I’m ridiculous, I know, as long as if by ridiculous you mean awesome.

Marathong, tha thong thong thong.

  I’ve signed up for the Long Beach half marathon in October. It’s 13.1 miles through the streets and beaches of the LBC…”on a mission trying to find Mr. Warren G”. If you are wondering who the picture of the gentleman running is, please excuse yourself for a few seconds in order to slap your own face. That is Mr. Steve Prefontaine, arguably the greatest runner in American history and mustache growing champion. Who knows how many minutes he could have shaved off of his times, if he had shaved that puppy. If you want to come and bring signs and cheer, I’m not opposed to that at all.

Shoe’re is nice.

 It was time for a new pair of running shoes, especially with all this crazy marathon running business being talked about. I went to Roadrunner Sports, which is crazy delicious for runners. They have treadmills to run on, video cameras to tape your gait and a huge selection of shoes. I went in there thinking I would go to a different shoe, like the Asics Nimbus 10, but it turns out that the new Nike Air Pegasus 25 was the winner. It’s really an unbelievably comfortable and stable shoe.

Marath-non

  Well, I just went to sign up for the Disney Half Marathon coming up next month and somehow it’s closed. I mean, who the heck closes off a marathon, don’t like 100 million people run in the Boston marathon and isn’t this race giving the proceeds it makes up to cancer research or something? So, I would think the more the merrier, but not Disney cause they are stupid heads and have a deadline. Well, that’s the last time I ever buy a $4 churro from you jerks… well maybe close to the last time.

Refinery design

So, I was asked to do a few designs for a wall at the refinery and here so far, is my favorite one that I came up with. The themes all were to come from the PDL book, so this was my interpretation for chapter 38, going throughtout the world spreading the news.

Chipot-let me wash my hands

I don’t heart (palpatations) you Starbucks

Today, I unwisely got one of those new Starbucks Doubleshot + energy on ice drinks after lunch. What is it you ask? It’s basically 5 shots of espresso on ice, with a package of energy boosting stuff added in. Total caffeine = 225 (mg). To put that into perspective, remember Jolt cola?    It used to have 192 (mg) of caffeine. Oh, and that silly monster energy drink, it clocks in at a mere 160 (mg). Needless to say, I thought my heart was going to explode for about an hour and I only drank half of it. I do not recommend this to anyone, besides truckers or crab fishermen on a 28 hour bender.
